Biometrics

Whilst access control is utilizing an access card, biometrics uses individual and unique human characters (ie. finger prints, palm prints, hand geometry, retina and iris scans). 

The use of biometrics is based on the uniqueness of patterns within the human body and each individual has a unique set of patterns.  Biometric access control is the use of these patterns for verification.
